You are then presented with this &#8220;Destination Path Too Long&#8221; dialog:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-246\" title=\"Destination Path Too Long\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.gerrior.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Destination-Path-Too-Long.jpg\" alt=\"Destination Path Too Long\" width=\"496\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.gerrior.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Destination-Path-Too-Long.jpg 496w, https:\/\/blog.gerrior.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Destination-Path-Too-Long-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 496px) 100vw, 496px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Thoughts that come to mind:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Can&#8217;t I rename it now?<\/li>\n<li>Can&#8217;t Windows rename it now?<\/li>\n<li>Can&#8217;t Windows show me a list of all the files that fall into this category?<\/li>\n<li>Can&#8217;t Windows present the offending files in a dialog where I can copy the filenames and paths for easier resolution?<\/li>\n<li>Does Windows really have to bring the copy to halt because of this?  It&#8217;s already copied a lot of data &#8211; what&#8217;s the harm if it continues the copy?  If I cancel later what&#8217;s the harm?  Instead the machine is left waiting for me.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Let&#8217;s say the user really does want to continue the copy.  Here&#8217;s the scenario they&#8217;re confronting:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Write down the filename(s!)<\/li>\n<li>Press Skip and continue to babysit the long copy for other offending filenames.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Once the copy operation is &#8220;complete&#8221;, here&#8217;s the next steps:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Search for offending file on the source drive<\/li>\n<li>Rename offending file<\/li>\n<li>Find the location on the destination drive<\/li>\n<li>Copy file to new destination<\/li>\n<li>Repeat this process for every offending file.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ugh, no thanks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;re in the middle of copying a large directory between drives.
