I’d been doing a lot of work in Fedora 8’s Terminal.\u00a0 I’m copying files often.\u00a0 My work with cp<\/tt> caused me to get the overwrite prompt frequently and in an effort to increase productivity I was looking for a way to supress it.\u00a0 The option I needed was --force<\/tt>.\u00a0 When I invoked cp with -f<\/tt> it was still prompting me to overwrite the file.\u00a0 Hmmm. What do I not understand about force?\u00a0 I sheepishly asked a colleague what is doing on.\u00a0 He said to type alias<\/tt> and see what I get.\u00a0 Low and behold alias has cp='cp -i'<\/tt> effectively negating my -f<\/tt>.\u00a0 Ugh.\u00a0 Going direct with \/bin\/cp -f<\/tt> bypasses the alias.\u00a0 Editing the alias is an option too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
